Here the best of the best contend against each other, regardless of what game they are playing. eSports Team of the Year Awarded since: 2004 Past Winners: PGS Gaming (2007), fnatic (2006), 4Kings (2005), EYEballers (2004) In eSports, skilled players are valuable, but what a perfectly balanced team can achieve surpasses anything a single player is able to show off in terms of skill and elegance. Since eSports is a team game, players from all disciplines supporting team modes are eligible in this category. Best Counter-Strike Player Awarded since: 2004 Past Winners: PGS|neo (2007), fnatic|f0rest (2006), coL|fRod (2005), SK|Potti (2005) Counter-Strike is not only the most popular eSports title ever. With its 8 year history, the amount of skill gathered among the best of the best is enormous. This category honours the most valuable players for their performance in specific tournaments. Best Warcraft 3 Player Awarded since: 2004 Past Winners: 4K|ToD (2007), 4K|Grubby (2006, 2005), SK|Sweet (2004) The world elite in Warcraft 3 is spread throughout 5 continents. Hot spots of the WC3 scene remain in Asia and Europe with a host of players competing in international tournaments. The crown in the WC3 scene is heavily contended. In order to be nominated in this category, a player needs to have shown exceptional performances in one single tournament. Best FPS Duel Player Awarded since: 2007 Past Winners: - (2008), FPO|toxjq (2007) The Duel players scene is among the oldest of the eSports community. With the increase in tournament-ready Duel Shooters in the last year leading to an eSports Award category, we now pay tribute to this eclectic group of players, that brings us so much joy with their breath-takingly flawless movement, speeding through maps like the wind while giving their opponents more than just a hard time. This category is not part of the eSports Award 2008. Newcomer / Breakthrough of the Year Awarded since: 2004 Past Winners: av3k (2007), aTTaX|Kapio (2006), fnatic|Vo0 (2005), sI|Burnie (2004) While already having more than a decade of history, each year sees new eSports heroes emerge. Players nominated for Breakthrough of the Year have made headlines with upsetting victories against established star players. To qualify for a nomination, a player needs to be in his first year concerning international tournaments. Best eSports Coverage Awarded since: 2004 Past Winners: readmore (2007) International: SK-Gaming (2006, 2005, 2004 ) National (Germany): readmore (2006), mousesports (2005), rushed (2004) Each year, the best eSports coverage website is honoured with this prize. To have this award in the lineup signifies the importance of having active editorial teams and constantly improving scene websites, in order to further the growth of eSports. The winner of this category is determined by the community. In 2007, this category is merged with the eSports Award for Best eSports Coverage (German), resulting in 10 nominations to be given out. Scene Journalist Award Awarded since: 2007 Past Winners: David "Craven" Abel, Michal "Carmac" Blicharz (2007) As important as the coverage websites are the people behind them. Without outstanding young journalists, that drive their respective scene sites, the quick development of eSports from small to large scale would have been nigh impossible. With the Scene Journalist Award, we honour those, who put all their energy and enthusiasm into informing people, often without getting paid at all. Every scene journalist can apply with an article of his choice, further details can be found in the rules. An English translation of any submitted article is required, since the final winner will be voted by the community. Journalist Award Awarded since: 2006 Past Winners: Tim Farin & Christian Parth (2007), Bernhard Hübner (2006) In the constant development of eSports as a whole, the classic press always played a significant role. Explaining the benefits and excitement of eSports to the masses is of utmost importance, if players and companies want to gain public approval. The authors of the 5 best journalistic articles of the past year are nominated, regardless of the original language. English translations of every article will be provided. eSports Game of the Year Awarded since: 2007 Past Winners: Pro Evolution Soccer 6 (2007) After three years of giving out the Best Publisher Award, the choice now fell to making the Award go out for a more specific achievement. By honouring the eSports Game of the Year, the eSports community gives back to those who are making us what we are. It also serves to demonstrate to publishers, that eSports is an important field of business for them and that developers should abide to the needs of the active online players. All games that were published in the year leading to the eSports Award Ceremony are eligible in this category. The winner will be determined by the community. Lifetime Achievement Award Awarded since: 2007 Past Winners: Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel (2007) While still a comparably young sport, eSports already has quite a history to look back at. To be bestowed with the honour of the Lifetime Achievement Award one needs to have shaped the fate of eSports over years, having a major influence on the coming-of-age of eSports and all its aspects. This Award is not guaranteed to be given out every year. There is no nomination list, the winner will be announced about a month prior to the eSports Award Ceremony. eSports Photo of the Year (Online Award) Awarded since: 2008 Past Winners: - When we think of eSports there are these images in our heads. It is a great achievement to perfectly capture a moment and make it stick in the audience's mind. Our best eSports photographers shape the way that we look at eSports. In the category eSports photo of the Year, the eSports Award honors these pictures and their authors. Best Call of Duty Player (Online Award) Awarded since: 2008 Past Winners: - The Call of Duty series gains more relevance with each passing year. From the fourth part on, this game has firmly established itself as part of the pro gaming canon. The future looks bright for this series of games. The eSports Award pays tribute to the rising stars of Call of Duty, by honoring the Best Call of Duty Player of the year. Best Halo Player (Online Award) Awarded since: 2008 Past Winners: - While it is widely accepted that there are extraordinary achievements within PC FPS shooters, the merits of the best of the best within the consoles world have so far been overlooked. The Halo series has shaped star players known throughout the world and is represented on a large slate of eSports tournaments. The eSports Award now decorates the Best Halo Player of the past 12 months for his outstanding performance. Consoles Player of the Year (Online Award) Awarded since: 2008 Past Winners: - For a few years already, eSports has not been confined to the PC any more. In a wide range of games, with a whole lot of tournaments, an individual pro gaming community has formed. Consoles fans celebrate the star players. With the emergence of professional leagues using console games as part of their games selection, it is natural that the eSports Award honors the achievement of the Consoles Player of the Year. Consoles Team of the Year (Online Award) Awarded since: 2008 Past Winners: - As a lot of consoles tournaments are team-based, it is natural to also award the best effort in teamplay. The Consoles Team of the Year award goes out to the one squad that has excelled throughout the year in performance, skill and elegance. |
