BitComet это мощное приложение для работы с одним из самых популярных p2p-протоколов, не содержит шпионского или вредоносного кода, при этом достаточно быстро работает. Имеет просто и понятный интерфейс со встроенным браузером, использующим движок Internet Explorer, для скачивания torrent-файлов. Поддерживает одновременное скачивание нескольких заданий, загрузку выборочных файлов, быстрое возобновление работы, чат, настройки для ограничения скорости и переназначения портов, работу через proxy, и многое другое. По своим параметрам вполне сопоставим с другими продуктами такого класса, а именно Azureus и µTorrent .

Основные возможности программы следующие:

* предварительный просмотр неполного видео материала
* работа с сетью через DHT, без необходимости подключения к серверу треккера
* ограничение скорости, как закачивания, так и скачивания файлов
* одновременная загрузка файлов, автоматическая оптимизация соединения
* интеллектуальный контроль полосы для оптимизации и получения максимальной скорости
* проверка контрольной суммы файлов при старте/возобновлении заданий для уменьшения вероятности порчи задания
* работа через брандмауэры и NAT, автоматическая настройка встроенного в Windows межсетевого экрана
* автоматическое переназначение портов для роутера
* возможность временной или перманентной блокировки IP-адреса
* возможность общения с другими пользователями
* автоматическое завершение работы системы с различными условиями
* скачивание файлов по протоколам FTP/HTTP

При всех заявленных характеристиках, BitComet распространяется, по крайней мере, пока, абсолютно бесплатно. Как видно, авторы делают попытку создать универсальный клиент для работы практически со всеми основными протоколами. Однако данное стремление весьма странно, особенно на фоне необъяснимого увеличения размеров итогового дистрибутива, который по сравнению с предыдущим релизом возрос практически в 3 раза. Имеется качественная русская локализация и полная поддержка Windows Xp\Vista.

В данном выпуске снова сделано множество улучшений в пользовательском интерфейсе, добавлены новые опции, обновлены иконки для поддерживаемых форматов. Кроме того, исправлено множество мелких ошибок, в том числе и при работе с среде операционной системы Windows Vista

За пять лет развития разработчики альтернативного BitTorrent-клиента под названием BitComet наконец представили версию под номером 1.0.
